Getting the right fit makes all the difference, and bangles and cuffs are measured differently. Here's how to find yours.
First, why bangles and cuffs aren't measured the same way
A bangle is a closed circle. It has no clasp and no opening, so it has to slide over your knuckles to get on. That means what matters is the widest part of your hand, not your wrist.
A cuff is open at the back and bends to fit, so it goes on sideways at the wrist. For those, your wrist is the measurement.
That's the whole difference. Measure the hand for bangles, the wrist for cuffs.
Measuring your hand for a bangle
- Tuck your thumb across your palm, reaching toward your little finger, as though you were sliding a bangle on.
- Wrap a measuring tape around the widest part of your hand, over the knuckles and including the thumb knuckle.
- Note the number where the tape overlaps. That's your hand size.
No measuring tape? A strip of paper, a ribbon, or a piece of string works just as well. Wrap it around, mark where it overlaps, then lay it flat against a ruler. Paper is best because it doesn't stretch.
Measure twice. If you get two different numbers, go with the larger one.

Every Belle & Southern bangle is named and measured, so you never have to guess what a letter means. The number is the inside circumference of the bangle itself.

Between two sizes? Go up. A bangle that's a little roomy still gets worn. One that won't go over your knuckles never does.
For a bit of perspective, most adult women measure somewhere between 7¾" and 8", which puts them in a Belle or a Grand Belle. If you measure 9" or 6", check your thumb is properly tucked and try again.
Already own a bangle that fits?
That's the easiest way of all. Lay it flat and measure straight across the inside, from one inner edge to the other. That's the inside diameter.
To compare it to our numbers, multiply by 3.14. A bangle measuring 2½" across the inside has an inside circumference of about 7⅞", which makes you a Belle.
A word about handmade
Every bangle is forged by hand, one at a time, so expect about an eighth of an inch either way. That's the nature of handmade and it sits well within a comfortable fit. If yours ever doesn't feel right, tell us.
Measuring for a cuff
Take the measurement around your wrist bone, snug but not tight. That's your wrist size.
Our cuffs are made to fit a 7" wrist, and because they're open at the back you can ease them a little wider or narrower with your hands. That range covers most people comfortably.
Adjust gently, working the whole curve rather than bending one spot, and shape it once rather than flexing it back and forth. There's more on that in our copper care guide.
